We begin this day by taking the route to Higüey where, in addition to touring its streets, we will visit the largest and most important church in the country, the Basilica of La Altagracia. Camera in hand, get ready to capture unbelievable panoramas of an unequaled wildlife. Gallop in the outskirts of a lush, tropical countryside paradise.
Cruise across a sugar cane plantation. Witness the traditional way the indigenous people ploughed this crop. Go inside an artisan sugar cane mill, and watch an accurate re-enactment of a colonial-era trapiche (wheel grinder). See this crop transform before your eyes, from cane juice to molasses and vinasse, until becoming the finest Dominican rum. Perhaps the best mature, ripe tobacco has been harvested in this land, befitting only the finest cigar brands in the world which use them in their manufacturing process.
This tour would not be complete without learning hands on from master craftsmen, who generation after generation have hand-made the most coveted cigars.To complete this journey, visit a local family on their home. With smiles they invite you to their farm and their coffee plantation. Also, take a moment to taste the real cacao and many exotics fruits. This was a fantastic tour of the countryside and really gives you a look at the day-to-day life of people in the Dominican Republic. The day starts with a drive through the countryside to a home where you can see how cocoa and coffee beans are hand roasted and processed. It then moves to a demonstration of how cigars are hand rolled then a really, really good buffet lunch.

The tour then goes to a farm where you go on a 20 minute horseback ride and concludes with stop at Macau Beach. We really enjoyed the tour and our tour guide, Mimi. The buffet lunch was delicious and was the best meal we had in the Dominican Republic! If you're staying at an all-inclusive resort they will pick you up at your hotel. We would highly recommend this tour to get a real taste of the Dominican.

We enjoyed our tour with Bavaro Runners. Our guide Alex was very good! He told us a lot of history and information about the DR and did it in a funny and entertaining manner. We were impressed with the different languages he could speak! The driver was also really nice but I'm sorry I can't remember his name. We liked seeing the countryside and getting a taste of the local culture.

The lunch on top of the mountain was plentiful and delicious! The visit to the lady's house to see the coffee, chocolate, etc. was also interesting. We were kind of disappointed with the last thing on the tour, the beach visit. The surf was too strong and cold to get in the water. We tried to take a walk on the beach but people kept hassling us to buy things.
